Some evening, weekend, and holiday work required.ResponsibilitiesDirect execution of projects during construction phase in accordance with project designs, plans, schedules, and budgets. Coordinate construction activities with project managers, shops, contractor personnel, clients, and other stakeholders, as appropriate. Ensure assigned projects comply with construction documents, codes, performance schedules, and quality standards for workmanship and materials. Order special materials and equipment, and secure outsourced services.Maintain project files and records. Submit reports during weekly section scheduling meeting and, as required, to management and campus clients. Provide updates in FAMIS work order system and save project documents and photos to electronic file for all assigned projects. Maintain up-to-date project reporting to support PMCS management and University requirements.Manage delivery of facility projects executed by in-house shops, contract open order labor, and associated campus/contracted support. Develop project plans, specifications, and schedules for assigned projects. Responsible for managing scope, schedule and budget for multiple, concurrent projects.Prepare estimates and client authorization letters to obtain funding from campus and internal sources for assigned projects. Perform site inspections and constructability reviews to produce accurate labor and material estimates.Serve as PMCS primary point of contact for assigned projects. Provide timely communication of project progress and issues to stakeholders and maintain positive work relationships with division staff, campus clients, service vendors, and contractors. Coordinate with other campus service providers for required support.For smaller projects not requiring design, manage projects throughout their life cycle, including defining scope with client; preparing working drawings, as required; and overseeing shop performance of requested work.Support project managers on Project Management and Planning teams in execution of projects by in-house shops, including verifying work performed and informing the project manager of any changes in scope, schedule, or budget.Participate in final inspections, including identification of punchlist items. Distribute punchlists to team members and ensure that all punchlist items are complete before project is closed out.Drive UT vehicle in support of campus facility projects and special events. May serve on committees, task forces, etc. to improve project delivery. Attend management-directed meetings and training. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the University and PMCS.Required Qualifications- High school graduation or GED.- Five years progressive experience in estimating, planning, designing, leading, or supervising commercial or industrial facility renovation and minor construction projects.- Experience working on projects in a higher education or similar type of environment, within occupied facilities, with demanding schedules and multiple stakeholders.- Excellent organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple simultaneous activities in a diverse and complex environment. Ability to manage change and work effectively in a changing environment.- Strong communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member among various diverse operating groups to ensure timely delivery of projects within client scope, budget, and schedule requirements.- Working knowledge of building codes.- Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and scheduling software such as MS Project.- Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline, or vocational training in a construction-related field. - Master-level trade experience or Texas licensure in a Construction Services trade, or related construction trade experience.- Experience in leading work crews in an institutional, commercial, or construction environment as a lead journeyman, crew leader, shop supervisor, or superintendent.- Experience managing design and construction for projects in a higher education setting as the owner's representative. Experience managing laboratory renovation projects.- Experience supporting and/or managing special events.- Specialty credentials such as LEED AP, PMP, CEFP, or similar.- Completion of one or more of the following UT Austin training programs: Planning, Energy and Facilities Leader Development Program, PMCS Project Management PM 102 Program, FAS Leadership Growth Program.Driving RequiredThis job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
