General Summary

  • The Shipping/Receiving, Inventory and Distribution Manager is responsible for the daily operation of the shipping/receiving, inventories, distributions and logistics of all supplies and equipment throughout the Phelps Health network. This position works closely with both the procurement and contracting staff and the clinical staff to meet Phelps Health objectives and customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Up to 8)

  • Ensures an adequate number and skill mix of staff to accomplish department functions.
  • Manages efficient and cost effective inventory control processes for the facility.
  • Manages the patient supply charge recovery process.
  • Establishes current patient charge master, and maintains the appropriate files.
  • Establishes, analyzes and maintains effective and economic inventory levels.
  • Analyzes, trains, develops and assists OR staff in OR inventory control and analysis.
  • Places orders for inventories and non-inventory stock.
  • Operates efficient and economic shipping and receiving functions.
  • Acts as new products coordinator on Nursing Quality Committee.
  • Manages monthly Dashboard reports.
  • Manages product recalls by collecting and packaging equipment/supplies for return or exchange per the vendor instructions and maintaining all correct documentation following the hospital Product Recall Process.
  • Manages and coordinates the proper disposal of facility property following the established Asset Disposal Policy and maintains the correct documentation.
  • Establishes and achieves the departmental process improvement plans.

Job Qualifications

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, science or a related field or 5 years of applicable work experience.
  • Work Experience
    • Five or more years' experience in inventory, shipping/receiving and distribution management (preferably healthcare) that includes, but is not limited to, knowledge of surgical instrumentation, case cart assembly and aseptic technique preferred.
    • Minimum three (3) years of previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certification/License
    • Certified Material and Resource Professional (CMRP) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management certification, (IAHCSMM), etc. preferred.

Mental/Physical Requirements

  • Work can be moderately stressful, requiring periods of concentrated effort. Requires the physical ability to stoop, bend, and transport self, carts, and medical equipment through hospital at least 50% of the shift. Must be able to lift 35 lbs.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in an air-conditioned supply room. Noise levels are usually light. Work is performed under the following conditions: approximately 40% in a standard temperature controlled office environment, 40% in a temperature controlled storeroom environment, and 20% on an outside dock exposed to external conditions. Noise levels may vary from light (office machinery) to moderately heavy (truck noises, engineering equipment).
