Detail-oriented manual machinist fabricates and repair parts used in geothermal drilling and power generation. Strong working knowledge of precision tools, including a lathe, milling machine, drill press, welder and other manual machine shop equipment. Must also be neat, organized and used to working with steel pipe.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reads and understands the specifications for the work to be done and plans the steps to be taken to complete the project. Shapes the material by cutting, drilling, boring, turning and milling. Finishes and assembles parts by hand and uses scribers, gauges, and other instruments to achieve accuracy.
Two years experience or vocational training is preferred. Good mechanical aptitude, dexterity and hand-eye coordination are required. Good math and reasoning abilities are essential. Must be able to understand and utilize engineering drawings, operating manuals and blueprints.
Ability to communicate orally with management and coworkers is important. Regular use of a variety of machines and tools is essential. Standing for extended periods is common. Some medium lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally is required.
The job is typically performed indoors, on a shop floor. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, heat, sparks, and smoke may occur. Protective safety equipment - including appropriate clothing, steel toe boots and safety glasses - are needed. Activities include extended periods of standing and extensive work with measuring devices and heavy machinery.
Reports to the Production Manager. Works with other machinists to maintain and repair production equipment and make custom parts.
