The Redwoods, A Community of Seniors is seeking a qualified Maintenance Technician to work in the Health Care Center.


Position Summary:

Performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on buildings, mechanical equipment, and utility systems. Must be able to perform maintenance and repair duties with minimal oversight.

Primary responsibilities and duties:

  • Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment utilizing written work orders.
    1. Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis. Inspects, repairs, and replaces broken parts.
    2. Repairs doors, door locks and closets; installs window blinds.
    3. Repairs electrical equipment and control circuits; replaces faulty electrical switches and receptacles; repairs refrigeration equipment as long as refrigerant handling is not required.
    4. Repairs wheelchairs.
  • Turnover vacant rooms
    1. Paint, repair, hang pictures.
    2. Ensure telephones and televisions are installed and working properly.
    3. Assemble furniture and equipment.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
    1. Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; paints building structures.
    2. Assists in maintaining records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
    3. May research information for replacement part procurement.
  • Maintains nurse call and wander guard systems and ensures facility is compliant with Life Safety Code requirements.
    1. Run reports on emergency call system.
  • Routinely inspects electrical for compliance and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The applicant must be able to pass pre-employment physical and LiveScan Fingerprint background clearance.

Education:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three years of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Skilled nursing facility experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates good skills in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to speak English at a level which allows the safe, efficient performance of the job
  • Must be able to understand and follow established procedures, directions and instructions - in written and verbal form.
  • Required language: English, Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Certificates, Licenses, and Registration

  • Valid California Driver's License

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
