The Mechanical Engineer leads the design and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical products and systems by developing conceptual layouts, product specifications, mechanical drawings and working with manufacturing personnel to develop appropriate fabrication methods. S/he develops, sets up and conducts laboratory tests to determine performance of components and systems versus specifications. She he also assists the production team on manufacturing tasks as needed.

On a day-to-day basis, the Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
  • Conduct research in support of design proposals, specifications, and manuals to help evaluate the feasibility, cost, and/or maintenance requirements of designs
  • Select and specify components or direct modification of existing products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications
  • Investigate product/equipment for out of specification conditions, assembly/use difficulties and/or failures in order to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations for improvements
  • Document the structural design of products, using CAD design/drafting tools
  • Test and analyze the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems
  • Develop and test alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modifications
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by reviewing design of equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components
  • Assist in investigations of non-conformances and recommends corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
  • Other duties as may be assigned

To be qualified for this position, the candidate should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) or Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) or a related program (i.e. Engineering physics)
  • Experience with CAD 3D program
  • Experience with Solid Works and/or Solid Works EPDM strongly preferred
  • Experience with the mechanical design of complex parts
  • Blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
  • Excellent Communication skills

Environment: The job will be performed in an office environment (50%), test lab (20%) and in a manufacturing facility (30%).

Typical working hours: 8am to 5pm
